Popis - STILL POINT:
Still available. One of the most respected and influential acts that have emerged from the neo-classical/gothic/ambient/and post-rock alternative scene, Amber Asylum have once again delicately peered through the cascading light with their long-awaited full-length, "Still Point", their first observation since 2000. Headed by the classically trained, prolific, and multi-instrumentalist Kris Force (who has been involved in such collaborations alongside such legendary acts as Neurosis, in which she has appeared on multiple albums, Swans, and penned music for various film scores, video games, and television), when she introduced the world to Amber Asylum in 1996 with their debut album "Frozen In Amber" (originally released by Misanthropy Records sub-label Elfenblut, recently re-issued by Neurot a few years ago), it was clear that a new and wondrous musical treasure had been unearthed. Through a veil of comforting darkness, where gentle and meticulous string arrangements, looming bass guitars, and lightly paced militant and minimalist drumming served as the ideal counterpart to Forces alluring, enchanting, and seductive voice, Amber Asylum would become an immaculate entity like no other. What would follow were three more full-length recordings for Relapse Records ("The Natural Philosophy Of Love", "Songs Of Sex And Death", and "The Supernatural Parlor Collection") that would take Amber Asylum, along with the listener, through artistically wondrous elusive reverie-like realms where haunting arias and classically measured chamber string sonatas would converge in a marriage of beauty and disturbance. "Still Point" sees Amber Asylum at the height of their powers. Through ten chilling masterfully crafted odes to the fallen and the forgotten, "Still Point" (which features a cover of Richard Thompsons folk classic "The Great Valerio") emerges as a triumphant and defying piece of moving chamber music of a morose and wondrously melancholic and beautiful nature.
Amber Asylum on this recording are: Kris Force, Jackie Perez-Gratz, Lorraine Rath, and Sarah Shaffer.
