Suffice it to say that not only was pianist Pieranunzi the only Italian ever to be given carte blanche in that magical place on W 44th Street, but on this particular occasion (30 October 2008) was also accompanied by two giants of jazz: bassist Steve Swallow, and-the greatest among drummers-Paul Motian, who has been performing the music of our Roman pianist for over twenty years. The first five minutes of this unique record is all you need to know for certain that the chemistry between these three musicians definitely worked, and that magic was made on this CAM Jazz LP. The powerful pianism of Pieranunzi ranges between free improvisations, original compositions, and a few songs borrowed from the great book of jazz standards. This album is like a three part conversation, an incredible interplay between artists who know how to listen, interact and perform in front of an enchanted audience who, within the four walls of Birdland, witnessed the writing of a new page in piano trio history.
