Hands On Koos Wiltenburg Group From the First guitar arpeggio-chord until the last guitar tremolo on this second album by the group it is clear that we are dealing with another great collective inspiring performance. All the new compositions by bass-player Koos Wiltenburg are refreshing and well-executed by the excellent seasoned members of the “company”. The versatility and togetherness of the players is really heart-warming. Carefully listen to Eef Albers, who has rightfully been hailed for years as one of Europe’s best guitar players. His biting and sometimes haunting solo work is stunning to say the least. Eef also closely cooperated with Koos in the artistic proceedings of the album. Enjoy Leo Jansen, a prominent member of the Dutch Metropole Orchestra; in his artful meandering through the material, armed with saxophone, clarinet, flute and even African flute as in Katharsis. His own composition: Spanish Thoughts really takes you to the gypsies and Moors in southern Spain. Instrumental in this alliance certainly is guitarist Thomas Zoetelief, who took eminent care of the recordings, and plays a great solo on La Cite. Needless to mention, but I’ll do it with pleasure is the coherence and power of the rhythm section, always on the ball and sharp as the proverbial knife! Arno van Nieuwenhuize and Mamour Seck kicking and spurring the other members no end. And in the midst of it all modest bass player Koos Wiltenburg who wields his axe seemingly effortless through the sometimes intricate compositions, be it on bass, bass-guitar, acoustic or electric. Ginza is a good example. All in all the communal efforts really paid off, for this is a wonderful testimony of teamwork and a pleasure to digest, it really feels like going home. Hands On!
