Popis - BAD & THE BEAUTIFUL:
Jo Caseley is an emerging singer/songwriter who was born into a musical family with a violin teaching mother, started writing her own songs and performing at 16, but never seriously considered pursing music as a career path until the birth of her first child. 'I've always written and performed music from a young age but it wasn't until I quit my full-time job to become a mother that I realised I had been ignoring a huge passion. If I ever returned to the work force after having my children, there was no way I was going back to sit in an office. I was going to work a way out to make a living from making music. It just so happened to be an extremely inconvenient time to kick off a career as a musican, being so sleep deprived, having no time to pursue self promotion, and being absolutely broke as a result of leaving work to raise a family'. However, her songwriting ability clearly speaks for itself, with the first single from Dusty Dirt Track, 'Happy', achieving her finalist status in the 2010 Music Oz Awards, semi-finalist status in the 2011 International Songwriting Competition, and charting at #1 in Airit Radio's top 10. 'My first album Magical Garden is a very raw sounding, live and warm recording. Dusty Dirt Track explores much greater production and I really just wanted to have a lot of fun with this album. My producer Michael Carpenter of Love Hz Studio, Sydney, was the perfect person to create the sound I was trying to achieve and we had a lot of fun together making the album with all sorts of quirky sounds like an electric sitar on 'Hippy Girl' and a pump organ on 'Happy'. I was never trying to produce something 'commercial', or follow any rules, I just wanted to put down in the studio the sounds I was hearing in my head'. Review Country Music Capital News – March 2011 Vol. 36 No.2 By Matt Lawrence: 'If you were to take a spoonful of country, sprinkle in a few folk sensibilities, then stir in a dash of pop, I’m pretty sure you’d have Dusty Dirt Track sitting at the bottom of your mixing bowl. On this, her second release, Jo Caseley really has found the ultimate recipe for creating music that is both incredibly quirky and amazingly refreshing. While at times slightly reminiscent of the likes of The Waifs, Caseley manages to maintain her own very distinct style throughout the 12 tracks. Lyrically, various facets of life, love and friendship are explored, while instrumentally the listener is treated to plenty of leftfield sounds, like an electric sitar, glockenspiel, pump organ and toy piano to name a few. The secret though is in the subtlety of it all. Nothing is overdone, allowing Caseley’s voice to flow over the top, creating the melodious vocal hook lines that keep you singing along and ultimately coming back for more'.
