Popis - 46 MISSED CALLS / LIVE AT KPFK:
Rough Church: “46 Missed Calls” Los Angeles musical lynchpin and passionate NZ music fan Greg Franco and his band Rough Church’s new album captures the spirit of our busy modern lives - titled ‘46 Missed Calls (Live at KPFK)’, it was recorded half live at EStudio and the other half recorded during a live broadcast on LA radio station KPFK-FM, on the Mark Torres radio show. 'Travel Tips For Azlan' (http://www.kpfk.org). A number of the new songs feature lyrics penned by New Zealand poet and Greg’s friend David Eggleton. Franco made his mark in bands and behind radio microphones, leading many LA bands (including Ferdinand) and DJing at his alma mater UCLA’s radio station KLA. As a DJ during the mid ’80s, Franco interviewed bands such as the Violent Femmes, Camper Van Beethoven and Mojo Nixon, which helped his passion for music grow. After finishing college, Franco began a 20-year career at Universal Pictures, while continuing to make music, with his band Ferdinand opening for acts like Lutefisk, Rilo Kiley, Possum Dixon, Mike Watt, and most importantly The Clean (at Knitting Factory Hollywood, 2001) In 2004, Franco quit Ferdinand and went to New Zealand to create 'SouthpawWest”, made with Robert Scott and David Kilgour under the name 'Greg Franco and Wandering Bear'. Robert Scott introduced Greg to Andrew Maitai of Powertool Records and he released the CD on Powertool in 2006. In 2006 Greg also started Rough Church; touring NZ with them in 2007 plus doing a solo tour in 2008 with Otis Mace and Dragstrip, resulting in his album “White Dove Of The Desert', followed by 'The Wow Signal' in 2011. He also released a 14-track double vinyl opus called 'Aloha Mijos' in 2010; released on his own label Beautiful Workhorse which works alongside Powertool. 2013: a new sound and a new EP, 'Nude Canon,' and in 2014 '46 Missed Calls'; both written and recorded in LA, and are centered around the violin and keyboard work of Kaitlin Wolfberg who joined in late 2011. Of recent songs, Franco says, “After 30 years of writing music, I got sick of my lyrics and I became friends with David Eggleton, a New Zealand poet and professor who began writing songs for me,” Franco said. In addition to the New Zealand tones, Rough Church focuses on post-punk and psych pop and progressive rock music. “We put out rock – it has to have a helter-skelter energy with percussion breakdowns and guitar solos,” Franco said.
