Popis - PLUTO [VINYL]:
This is an official re-release on vinyl under licensed courtesy of BMG Rights Management, UK, remastered from an original master copy out of the vaults of BMG. The album was originally released in 1971 on Pye Records' progressive imprint Dawn. Pluto's only album is a nice mix of hard rock, progressive rock and some blues rock elements. All of the songs are pretty good and there are no fillers included. This album is easy to recommend for those who like the early '70s hard rock bands like Deep Purple and Uriah Heep. And especially if you like your hard rock to be bluesy and/or prog influenced then you might wanna check this album out. 'Crossfire' begins this album on a high note with a soaring catchy guitar riff to open the song, and a brief honky tonk type of piano playing. The vocal melody reminds of early Rush or April Wine. Beautiful and vibrant hard rock done professionally and excitedly. 'And My Old Rocking Horse' begins with some really unique drumming and guitar tricks that lean on the progressive rock style of trickery. This song reminds of the Velvet Underground with the stoned-out druggy vocal melody and the plodding pace really creating the feeling that this would make for an ideal drug trip. The guitar chord played in 'Down And Out' is very similar to that from the album 'Fly By Night' by Rush. It's just that the Canadians released it four years later. 'She's Innocent' is a simple song about a girl imprisoned in a prison cell, which turns into a dramatic ballad built around sudden changes of pace... In turn, 'Road To Glory' is a story of a man standing at a crossroads; his further life will depend on the decision which path he chooses. The exposed rumbling bass and vocalist's way of singing intensify the drama of this choice 'Steeling My Thunder' is a hard rock number which at that time was a lot: pulsating bass, uncomplicated melody, simple drumbeat and a great guitar solo at the end... A slightly more complex 'Beauty Queen' begins with a dazzling, explosive, psychedelic guitar playing with a beautiful (next) solo at the end and strong drums with vocal harmonies... 'Mister Westwood' has beautiful guitar chords in the intro, delicate vocals with strong and exciting bass work. A type of tear ballad and the real essence of sincere playing of the late '60s and early '70s. 'Rag A Bone Joe' reminds of The Five Man Electrical Band (known from the hit 'Signs') and has a super hit melody with an easy to remember chorus... The album ends with 'Bare Lady' with a fast catchy rhythm and vocal style inspired by the Beatles. The album received favorable and encouraging reviews. Journalists described it as a mix of Black Sabbath and Free, although there are probably more similarities. Interestingly - the two lead guitars complemented each other perfectly, leading dialogues with no signs of competition. This is great to listen to especially on headphones - they are separated into both channels. And it's not worth looking for an analogy with Wishbone Ash because Pluto did not play in unison. They played much harder... The album comes with a 4 page insert sheet with story and pics. Don't miss this underrated but very cool rock album. Includes 2 bonus tracks.
