Japanese import. The E De people live mainly in Tay Nguyen, in the central highlands of Vietnam. Gongs are among the most valuable instruments for the E De people. In this tradition the player strokes the back, or front, of a flat gong with a wooden stick, in an aggressive manner in order to create unique rhythmic patterns. However, for this recording on some of the tracks bamboo was being used instead, on which occasions we speak of "bamboo-gongs".
